Grades

Grade Components:

PROFESSIONALISM  (20%):

Your active participation in class activities and discussion are crucial to the success of the course. Because we will be remote for the entire session and only meet face-to-face once a week, you are expected to come to class fully prepared to discuss the readings for each meeting with cameras on; this includes having copies of your reading assignments available (for example tabs open to digital copies) so that you can support your ideas with specific examples in discussion. Your notes and questions on the material should be available to you in discussion as well.  You will be graded on the quality of your contributions to our class discussions.  You cannot earn an excellent grade (A) in a discussion-based class like this one if you do not regularly contribute to our discussions.  Simply attending class without any further involvement in our discussions will result in a participation grade of “C” or “Satisfactory.”

reading and screening response Exercises (20%)

To insure that students have the opportunity to demonstrate that they have completed the assigned readings and screenings, students will submit weekly one Film Analysis Form and one Short Answer Sheet about the week’s assigned readings and screenings.

Avatar blog entries (60%)

Each student will write a weekly entry for their course avatar. The blog entry should be between 800-1000 words and will include the diary or letter component as well as a reflection on the evolution of the entry. The essay must include details from the readings and/or screenings from each week of the course as it evolves and identify at least one major historical player, event, or reference from the readings.
